  • I. Remember Our Past Recollections– v3-5 A Call to Acknowledge our Past Heritage
3 I thank God, whom I serve, as my ancestors did, with a clear conscience, as night and day I constantly remember you in my prayers.
4 Recalling your tears, I long to see you, so that I may be filled with joy.
5 I am reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and, I am persuaded, now lives in you also

  • III. Rekindle Our Passion & Commitment – v6a,8,12-14 A Call to Accomplish our Divine Calling
    • Partake in the Suffering
      • v8 So do not be ashamed of the testimony about     our Lord or of me his prisoner. Rather, join with me in suffering for the gospel, by the power of God
      • Rom 1:16 -For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile.
    • Proclaim with Firm Conviction
      • v12. For this reason I also suffer these things; nevertheless I am not ashamed, for I know whom I have believed and am persuaded that He is able to keep what I have committed to Him until that Day.
      • Deut 11:18-23
        • 18 Fix these words of mine in your hearts and minds; tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads.
        • 19 Teach them to your children, talking about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.
        • 20 Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates,
        • 21 so that your days and the days of your children may be many in the land the LORD swore to give your ancestors, as many as the days that the heavens are above the earth.
        • 22 If you carefully observe all these commands I am giving you to follow—to love the LORD your God, to walk in obedience to him and to hold fast to him—
        • 23 then the LORD will drive out all these nations before you, and you will dispossess nations larger and stronger than you.

    • Protect the Good Deposit
      • v14 - Guard the good deposit that was entrusted to you—guard it with the help of the Holy Spirit who lives in us.
    • Put into action the Gift of God
      • v6- For this reason I remind you to fan into flame     the gift of God
      • 1 Pet 4:10 Each of you should use whatever gift you have received  to serve others, as faithful stewards of God's grace in its various forms.

    • Principle #3 - God called us to use our gifts with passion and to proclaim the gospel with endurance.

  • In Summary
    • Remember how Jesus died on the cross for you and me in the past,
    • Reclaim what the Holy Spirit has given to empower us at present,
    • Recommit to use our spiritual gifts and rekindle God’s calling for us,
    • Thus, a walk to remember in the future, as we look forward to God’s Commendation, “Well done, my good and faithful servant”
