Gideonhole
Judges 6-7

Untitled

Central Point
You feel like NONENTITY, but God’s CALLING builds your IDENTITY.

1. HEAR GOD (6:11-24)

A. Huge Fear (vv. 11-13)
“The angel of the Lord came and sat down under the oak in Ophrah that belonged to Joash the Abiezrite, where his son Gideon was threshing wheat in a winepress to keep it from the Midianites.” v. 11

B. Heavenly Father (vv. 14-16)
“The Lord turned to him and said, “Go in the strength you have and save Israel out of Midian’s hand. Am I not sending you?” v. 14

2. OBEY GOD (6:25-32)

A. On-going Obedience (vv. 25-27)
“So Gideon took ten of his servants and did as the Lord told him. But because he was afraid of his family and the townspeople, he did it at night rather than in the daytime.” v. 27

B. Onslaught Order (vv. 28-32)
“The people of the town demanded of Joash, “Bring out your son. He must die, because he has broken down Baal’s altar and cut down the Asherah pole beside it.” v. 30

So because Gideon broke down Baal’s altar, they gave him the name Jerub-Baal that day, saying, “Let Baal contend with him.” v. 32

3. LET GOD (6:33-40)

A. Leadership of the Holy Spirit (vv. 33-34)
“Then the Spirit of the Lord came on Gideon, and he blew a trumpet, summoning the Abiezrites to follow him.”

v. 34

B. Labor of the Holy Spirit (vv. 35-40)
“And that is what happened.” v. 38a
“That night God did so” v. 40a

4. EXPERIENCE GOD (7:1-25)

A. Evidence of God’s Possibilities (vv. 1-8)
“So Gideon took the men down to the water. There the Lord told him, “Separate those who lap the water with their tongues as a dog laps from those who kneel down to drink.” v.5

B. Execution of God’s Promises (vv. 9-25)
“During that night the Lord said to Gideon, “Get up, go down against the camp, because I am going to give it into your hands.” v.9

“If I had three hundred men who feared nothing but God, hated nothing but sin, and determined to know nothing among men but Christ, and Him crucified, I would set the world on fire.”
- John Wesley -
