Psalms 20:1-9

Central Message

Facing the new year, a new phase of life, with FULL TRUST IN THE LORD.

I. A YEAR OF NEW BEGINNING (vv.1-4)

God Will Shield You (v.1)

- “May the Lord answer you in the day of trouble! May the name of the God of Jacob set you securely on high!”

God Will Support You (v.2)

- “May He send you help from the sanctuary And support you from Zion!”

God Will Remember You (v.3)

- “May He remember all your meal offerings And find your burnt offering acceptable!” 

God Will Reward You (v.4)
- “May He grant you your heart’s desire And fulfil all your counsel!”

II. A YEAR OF NO BARGAINING (vv.5-8)

Set up God’s banner (v.5)

- “We will sing for joy over your victory, And in the name of our God we will set up our banners. May the Lord fulfil all your petitions.”

Shout out God’s blessings (v.6)

- “Now I know that the Lord saves His anointed; He will answer him from His holy heaven With the saving strength of His right hand.”

Set apart as God’s believer (v.7)
- “Some boast in chariots and some in horses, But we will boast in the name of the Lord, our God.”

Stand up as God’s believer (v.8)

- “They have bowed down and fallen, But we have risen and stood upright.”

III. A YEAR OF NEXT “BIG-INNING” (v. 9)

The Almighty God (v.9a)
- “Save, O Lord;”

The Answering God (v.9b)
- “May the King answer us in the day we call.”
